| [Presented to] the four individuals of the Land of Japan: the Dharma-seeking monastic Saichō; the Vernacular-translator monastic Gishin; the practitioner Tajihi no Fukunari, and their porter. [These four individuals travel] with the texts of Sūtras, Treatises and the works of Tiantai, [as well] as the manifest images [of Buddhas] and their personal effects, [as per] the documents of Saichō and so forth. [They] presently intend to travel to Mingzhou with their Sūtras, Treatises etc, but are concerned that things will not proceed smoothly on the journey. And for this reason, they have humbly requested official certification and its enforcement. [This request] was respectfully submitted by the monastic Saichō, of the Land of Japan on [the first] day in the second month of the twenty-first year of Zhenyuan (805 A.D.). And official recognition was granted on [the same] first day of the third month.
