| The Record of the Transmission of the Dharma Flower School (written by Sange Daishi [Saichō]) says: “On the south-west [slope] of Huading Peak on Mount Tiantai, at the Yuanzong Yuan [Temple] I saw a thicket of bamboo trees which had an inscription which said: “Because the Perfect School of the Buddha-Dharma will gradually [spread] eastward, this thicket of bamboo trees sprouted on its own (i.e. it was not planted, but sprang forth spontaneously) [during the time of Master Zhiyi]. The deity [of the mountain] softened its light to manifest [in the world as this bamboo thicket, to] cause all sentient beings to attain benefit [thereby].”” |
