The Principles of the Four Teachings of Tiantai 天台四教儀
STUDY GROUP:
Reverend Jikai Dehn is currently running a study class focused on the Tiantai Sijiaoyi or The Principles of the Four Teachings of Tiantai 天台四教儀 written by the Korean Monk Chegwan 諦觀 (c. 960).
- The Study Class may be attended in person (if a connection with the Sangha is already formed), as well as online via Facebook Messenger Video Chat.
- The Study Class takes place: Every Saturday at 2:30PM AEDT/AEST (PLEASE NOT THAT THIS IS AUSTRALIAN EASTERN DAYLIGHT/STANDARD TIME)
- The class usually finishes at approx. 5:00PM, but those who need to leave earlier are free to do so.
- As part of the class, Reverend Jikai is creating a new English translation of the text with extensive annotation for use as a beginner’s guide to Tiantai/Tendai Buddhism. This new translation will be used during the class, but students and prospective students are encouraged to make use of the following two translations for review and comparison.
- CURRENT TRANSLATIONS:
- Charles Muller’s translation: Outline of the Tiantai Fourfold Teachings
- David Chappell’s An Outline of the Fourfold Teachings
- The Study Class is FREE, but we always appreciate donations if the content is valuable to you. This is because Reverend Jikai must work in order to support the temple and himself. If we have more support via donations, then Reverend Jikai would be able to devote more time to our translation efforts.
- All are welcome to attend, as long as they have a yearning to understand the Buddha’s Dharma.
- If you wish to attend the class, please contact Reverend Jikai for details.
- If you would also like to learn fundamental Tiantai/Tendai Practices as well, and thereby formally join our Sangha, please see the below Practice Class:
PRACTISE GROUP:
